Learn how to get in touch with your food, save money, and improve your health with this Organic Farming Method
On our Home Farming Basics “about” page, We lamented that most people have lost touch with their food. Mark Zuckerburg of Facebook fame is getting back in touch with his food in a meaningful way.
According to CNN, and based on an email from Mr. Zuckerberg himself, he is now eating only animals he has killed himself. This somewhat Ted Nugent like move has caused some interesting responses, but the Facebook founder seems to be trying to gain a respect for his food source, a respect that most people in our country have lost due to the huge chasm between what we eat and where it comes from.
Most people do not want to be reminded that there hamburger or steak was once a cow, or their chicken breasts were once attached to a living, breathing, pecking chicken. There is a certain reverence gained from participating in the killing andĀ preparationĀ of such animals which can be gained in no other way.
Those of us who grew up in such environments as family farms in rural areas many years ago, and those responsible hunters who hunt game for food understand what Mr. Zuckerberg is attempting to do, others may have a little more difficulty.
We applaud Mr. Zuckerberg’s effort, and hope that it will encourage more people to get in touch with their food.
